During a heat alert, it is worth keeping a few simple things in mind at Lupa so that your time at the beach stays enjoyable and no one puts themselves at unnecessary risk.
The most important thing is staying hydrated. Drink water regularly even when you do not feel thirsty, and avoid excessive alcohol consumption, as it increases dehydration. The sun is strongest during the midday hours, roughly between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., so it is best to seek shade during this time. Several cool spots and shaded areas are available across the venue, so make use of them to rest.
Protecting your skin is equally essential. Use a high SPF sunscreen, and reapply it every two hours, and always after swimming. A hat and sunglasses are not just accessories, in the heat they offer real protection.
Pay attention to your own condition and that of those around you. Signs of heat related illness can include dizziness, headache, nausea or unusual fatigue. If you notice any of these in yourself or your companions, move into the shade, start rehydrating, and seek out the beach staff if needed.
Children require extra care, as they dehydrate faster and are less likely to signal when something is wrong. Keep them in the shade and make sure they drink regularly.
Before getting into the water, it is worth cooling your body down gradually, as the sudden shift between overheated skin and cold water puts strain on your circulation. After a few minutes of rest in the shade, swimming is safer.
We strongly ask everyone to follow the house rules, and we kindly ask our guests to cooperate with the beach staff for the safety of us all.
